Lesson 3: I like pizza!
Lesson 3: I like pizza!
Goal: To make your first sentences. To express degrees of like and dislike.
New Vocabulary:
すき (Suki) - Like (The pronunciation of the "u" is very short, so it sounds like "ski")
だいすき (Daisuki) - Love (This also sounds like "die ski")
きらい (Kirai) - Dislike
だいきらい (Daikirai) - Hate
アイス (Aisu) - Ice cream. Short "u" sound makes it sound like "ice"
です (Desu) - No meaning, but makes the sentence politer. The "u" sound is short here too, so it sounds like "dess".
け-き (Keeki) - Cake
ピザ (Piza) - Pizza
ジュース (Juusu) - Juice
Practice:
け-き すき です
Keeki suki desu
ピザ きらい です
Piza kirai desu
アイス だいすき です
Aisu daisuki desu
ジュース だいきらい です
Juusu daikirai desu
Note:
Japanese often don't use I, you, me, us, them, unless they're needed for clarification.
So "I like cake", "you like cake", "he likes cake", "she likes cake", "we like cake", and "they like cake" could all be written as "けーき すき です" (Keeki suki desu).
Challenge:
Make your own sentences below!
I'm sure everyone knows a few common Japanese words, like sushi, wasabi, etc. Get creative!
