Lesson 6: This, That, Which?
Lesson 6: This, That, Which?
Goal: To be describe day the location of objects.
New Vocabulary:
Sorry, lots of new vocabulary this time, but it's useful stuff, and you can take your time.
これ (kore) means something near the speaker. Similar to "this" in English.
それ (sore) means something near the listener. Similar to "that" in English.
あれ (are) means something far from the listener and speaker. Similar to "that" in English.
どれ (dore) means "which?"
か?(ka?) basically is the same as adding a "?" to a sentence.
です か? (desu ka?) The same as "か?", but politer.
ほん (hon) Book.
ぺん (pen) Pen. (There are other words for this too, but we'll use an easy one today.)
こくばん (kokuban) Blackboard.
Previous Vocabulary:
は (ha, but pronounced "wa") See previous lessons for an explanation.
が (ga) See previous lessons for an explanation.
の (no) See previous lessons for an explanation.
です (Desu) - Added to the sentence to make it politer. Usually pronounced "dess" due to the "u" sound being almost silent in this word.
Practice:
I stumbled across this picture on the net, and I think it's really helpful. We'll use that as the example for most of this lesson.
All this is from the perspective of the woman in white.
これ は ほん です。
Kore ha hon desu.
それ は ペン です。
Sore ha pen desu.
あれ は こくばん です。
Are ha kokuban desu.
どれ が ほん です か?
Dore ga hon desu ka?
Some more practice. Please try to guess what the answer is before checking the spoiler. In most lessons I will slowly add more examples for practice. That way you can review later, instead of doing it all in one day and then forgetting a week later.
